I’m late to the party but thanks to my Goodreads friends I attended it anyway. The first line of the book is a killer, it just draws you into this extraordinary dark and disturbing psychological thriller. Well worth a read. I enjoyed Nugent’s first novel, Unraveling Oliver, her second lacks tension. However, needs must - because nothing can stop this mother from getting what she wants ... I don't give many 5 star ratings, but all it needed was a great ending to give it that extra push. A perfectly executed psychological twisted plot that kept me engrossed well past my bedtime! One of the most perfect books I have ever read. I wasn't expecting a happy ending, per se, but at least one that made more sense, I was hoping actions at least had some form of consequences to these characters. Her son has a constant battle to live his own life under her shadow, and the presence of the murdered girl's sister adds a completely different perspective. I winced at the sharp taste.
