[ This is a very good debut novel by Nicholas Searle, who I am sure we will hear a lot more of. In fact it is pretty clear from the outset that Betty has her own motives, but just what they are stay frustratingly out of reach until a significant way through the novel.
This is a very intelligent and self assured debut from the author and although it turned out to be not quite up my street, it is certainly a book that will be well received by others.
